Hiking Tagua Tagua Valley Tour in Chile

Hiking Tagua Tagua Valley into the protected Andean valley east of Reloncaví Fjord

5 days/4 nights hiking tour

Program

Our trip Hiking Tagua Tagua Valley begins at the airport of Puerto Montt, gateway to the Lake District. We meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in the nearby lakeside town, Puerto Varas. Here, you meet your guide for a briefing that prepares you for the upcoming trekking. Afterwards, you are free to walk along the beautiful coastal promenade and relax in one of the many cafés, while enjoying spectacular views of the area’s snow-covered volcanoes.

Accommodation: 3*-Hotel in Puerto Varas

After picking you up at your hotel this morning, we travel on idyllic country roads to Reloncaví Fjord, a narrow estuary of the eponymous Pacific bay that lies in front of Puerto Montt. We follow its shoreline until reaching the valley formed by Puelo River. It originates on the Argentinian side of the Andes and forms the stunning emerald colored Tagua Tagua Lake during its course to the Pacific Ocean. We cross the lake on a short boat ride to reach Tagua Tagua Park, a private protected area. Mostly ascending, a four-hour hike takes us to Alerce Lagoon, where we spend the first night in a “refugio”, a mountain hut.

Accommodation: Shared mountain hut on the shores of Alerce Lagoon. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Today’s hike leads us deeper into the valley that was carved into the mountain range. We pass waterfalls and millennial Alerce trees, arguably some of the oldest beings on earth. After around four hours, we reach the glacier-fed Quetrus Lagoon, where we spend the night in another mountain hut.

Accommodation: Mountain hut on the shores of Quetrus Lagoon. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Today we walk all the way back to Tagua Tagua Lake, from where we started our trek two days ago. The path is mostly descending. The boat awaits us at the trailhead, and after crossing the lake another time, we drive back to Puerto Varas.

Accommodation: 3*-Hotel in Puerto Varas. (Breakfast, lunch)

Take a last look at the perfectly cone-shaped Osorno Volcano before leaving Puerto Varas today. We take you back to the airport in Puerto Montt, from where you can fly back home via Santiago, or continue your journey to another region of Chile. (Breakfast)

Includes: 4 Nights accommodation. Private Transfers with guide: Airport Puerto Montt – Puerto Varas & back, Puerto Varas – Tagua Tagua Lake vice versa, Boat Transfers across Tagua Tagua Lake to and from the Park Entrance. Bilingual guides, first aid certified, all meals through the three days of trekking (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks), Park entrances and refuge or camping fees, Tents and inflatable mats in case of camping, 1 Bottle of water of 1 Litre each, 3 Person Tent (for every two participants), Termarest Mats.
