Update 01.10.2022

As of October 1, 2022, the mobility pass will no longer be required due to the advancement to the “Opening” phase.

The Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, announced on Wednesday an update of the sanitary measures, informing that the use of masks will no longer be mandatory in enclosed spaces as of October 1.

Thus, the mask will only be a “recommendation” for public transportation and similar crowded spaces, and the mandatory mobility pass will also be eliminated, given the positive epidemiological indicators presented by the country.

Non-resident foreigners who enter Chile must comply with the following requirements:

  • Negative PCR taken 72 hours before boarding. In flights with stopovers, the last boarding point is considered. This requirement is for every person over the age of 2. Individuals who have already received booster vaccination must also present a PCR test.
  • Complete the “Traveler’s Affidavit” form online up to 48 hours before arrival time in Chile, where you will provide contact, health, and travel information. This form will provide a QR code as a means of verification and is available at www.c19.cl
  • Have health insurance with minimum coverage of USD 30,000 that includes coverage for any expenses arising from Covid-19.
  • To have completed a vaccination program (2 doses), which must be validated at mevacuno.gob.cl before entering Chile. Here, travelers will request the validation and learn when it will be approved. Currently, approval can take from 15 to 30 days. Children under the age of 6 and non-resident foreigners who comply with one or more of the special requirements in Decree 102 of the Ministry of the Interior may enter without a complete vaccination program.
  • All persons regardless of their citizenship, must undergo a mandatory PCR test performed upon arrival to Chile and a  keep a quarantine until a negative result of the PCR or antigen is obtained. People who do not have their vaccines validated must undergo quarantine for 7 days, even if the result of the PCR is negative. All travelers entering must comply with the mandatory tracking for 10 days.

Passengers may wait for their PCR test results at the airport in Santiago or at the declared address, hotel, or residence in the destination city, either in Santiago or another city, connecting by a direct domestic flight.

The Chilean Ministry of Health eliminated the 45-day restriction, and the homologation of vaccines is of indefinite duration. Before, vaccine homologation lasted only 45 days after being accepted. The process of vaccine approval depends on the country of vaccination, but it is taking between 15 and 30 calendar days.

Mobility Pass to enter Chile

First, it is required that the process of homologation of vaccines has been completed. This process must be complete, and it is not enough just to apply. Once validated, the mobility pass is activated upon arrival in Chile, after having taken the PCR test and having obtained a negative result. This pass will be valid for 90 days.

The procedure is done at mevacuno.gob.cl. The site works in 15 different languages. It is important to indicate to your clients and to any foreign person entering the country, that when completing the entry documents (C19, registration, PCR, etc.) the same document number with which they completed the process of homologation of vaccines must always be used and it must also be the same as the one with which they entered Chile. Failure to do so could generate a situation of non-correlation of data and cause sanitary summaries.

Who can enter Chile

  • The changes apply to all resident foreigners and tourists.
  • All children under 6 years of age, regardless of their nationality or vaccination status, may also enter the country. All these groups, from 2 years of age, must have a negative PCR taken in the country of origin, 72 hours before travel, in addition to completing their affidavit on the website c19.cl.
  • Non-resident foreigners and tourists must have a medical insurance of US$30,000 that covers disease associated with Covid-19 and their vaccination validation procedure approved by the Minsal. Therefore, the health authority called to do this procedure in advance and to have it before traveling.
  • Those who do not have their vaccines validated, regardless of their nationality, in addition to the diagnostic test upon entering the country, must undergo a 5-day quarantine, regardless of whether the result of their test is negative. Meanwhile, the test includes minors from the age of 2 years.

No PCR test for travelers with booster dose

  • The health authority also announced that all foreign tourists who have had a booster dose applied (3rd vaccination) in the last 6 months will be exempted from the test (PCR or antigen) and the quarantine.
  • Those who have a mobility pass but have not had a booster dose in the last 6 months must be tested at the point of entry and undergo isolation until the result is obtained. The cost of the test must be paid by the passenger at the point of entry into the country.

New Border Crossings from December 1

  • The changes also consider that the four airports authorized for entering the country (Santiago, Iquique, Antofagasta, and Punta Arenas) will be joined by land border crossings: Chacalluta, in the Arica and Parinacota region; Colchane in the Tarapacá region; and Pino Hachado in the La Araucanía region. In total, there will be 7 accesses enabled for entry.

New Border Crossings from January 1

  • As of January 1, three more border crossings will be opened: Los Libertadores, Cardenal Samoré and Río Don Guillermo (in Magallanes). Thus, as of 2022, Chile will have 10 enabled crossings, between air and land.

There is a drastic improvement in the entry regulations to Chile: From 01/11/2021, all persons with complete vaccination may waive the 5-day quarantine. This is valid if they take another PCR test at the airport after arriving in Chile, and it is negative.

In this case, the quarantine lasts only until the test result is available (between 12 and a maximum of 24 hours). The time of waiting will be in the accommodation chosen by the client in the city of arrival.

All other regulations regarding entry into Chile remain the same. So, also the fact that only the airports Santiago de Chile, Iquique and Antofagasta are allowed to enter and leave the country. We hope that there will be further facilitation and that the land border crossings can be used again.

New Entry props to Chile for foreign tourists

Entry for foreign tourists to Chile will be possible again from October 1, 2021, with restrictions. Andes Nativa informs here about the current conditions for entry through Santiago de Chile, Iquique, and Antofagasta airports. We are confident that the situation will ease further until November and that entry will be possible again without quarantine.

Requirements for entry into Chile

  • Mobility passport (proof of vaccination)*: Proof of complete vaccination against Covid-19, to obtain it, the traveler must first apply for it on mevacuno.gob.cl and wait for its validation. With the provision of personal data and the vaccination documents. This can currently take up to 30 days.
  • Registration form and QR code from the website c19.cl
  • Negative PCR test (sample taken up to 72 hours before boarding). Travel medical insurance with minimum coverage of 30,000 USD for medical assistance in case of illness with COVID-19 coverage.

Quarantine measures when entering Chile

  • Persons with validated mobility passport (temporary and permanent): 5 days (120 hours) from the sanitary customs control at the point of entry into the country.
  • Persons without mobility passport: 7 days (168 hours) from the sanitary customs control at the point of entry into the country.
  • Transportation from the airport to the domicile/quarantine hotel may only be by private transfer or cab, which are subject to strict sanitary regulations for trips of less than two hours. A vehicle can be shared only with the same travel group.
  • When using a hotel at the point of arrival (can be freely chosen), until the deadline: no visitors may be received, the hotel may not be left.
  • Tracking of travelers after entering Chile: Possible home inspection during isolation (5 or 7 days), Daily self-report of health status and location information until 14 days after entry, if positive for COVID-19 or in close contact with infected persons, the traveler must be isolated at the site and for the period determined by the health authority.

According to the Protected Borders Plan, Chile is currently in Alert Phase 1, which does not include travel restrictions. However, there are some measures to be considered.

  1. Fill in the “Travel Affidavit” form online up to 48 hours before boarding, providing contact information and health and travel records. This form will display a QR code as a means of verification. It is available at www.c19.cl.
  2. Diagnostic tests will be carried out randomly at the entry point to Chile. Confirmed cases shall be isolated according to the general health regulations (declared domicile in the C19 or Sanitary Residence). If it’s your case, you have to wait for the results.

Although it is not mandatory, we always advise you to undergo a diagnostic test before traveling.

Our recommendation is to travel only fully vaccinated and also to have the vaccinations validated through the website mevacuno.gob.cl. Because a vaccination certificate is sometimes necessary for admission to flights, hotels, or restaurants.

End of the requirement of homologation of vaccines

The Chilean Ministry of Health announced the end of the requirement of homologation of vaccines for non-resident foreign tourists.

Tourists will be able to enter with a certificate from the country where they were vaccinated. Those who are not vaccinated will have to present a negative PCR not older than 48 hours from the departure to Chile. The measures will begin on September 1.

In addition, for those who enter with this vaccination up to date, the vaccination certificate will also serve as a “mobility pass”. In this way, the C19 for entering the country was eliminated and the data of individuals entering Chile will be obtained from the PDI (investigative police) databases, and it will not be necessary to fill out this form.
